Mark Boyd - Midfielder

Midfield. Squad No 8: Age 27. Born in Carlisle. Mark began his career as a trainee with Newcastle United but was released without making any first team appearances. He joined Port Vale in the summer of 2002 and made 50 League and Cup appearances for them, scoring four times before joining Carlisle United in March 2004. He made 9 League and Cup appearances for his home-town club scoring once before being released. In the summer of 2004 he joined Gretna and his progress there was hampered by injury. In early 2005 he had a spell with Macclesfield Town making five League appearances without scoring. He was released by Gretna in early 2006 and joined Accrington Stanley where he made six League appearances without scoring. In the summer of 2006 he joined Southport, making 41 League appearances for them, scoring four times. In 2007 he joined Sligo Rovers in the Xircom League. He was released in January 2008 and joined Barrow, making his debut in the home defeat by Stalybridge Celtic. Mark collected the "Goal of the Season" award for his efforts against Redditch United and Hinckley United and was a member of the Blue Square North play-off winning side in 2007-08. He scored the club's opening goal of the 2008-09 season at home to Oxford United on their return to top flight of non-League soccer after an absence of ten years.
