Matthew Bailey - Forward

Giant striker who arrived at the club in the summer of 2005 on a one year contract for a nominal fee from Northwich Vics. Born in Crewe, Bailey began his career in non league football with NWCL outfit Nantwich Town, but impressed during a trial with Stockport County and signed on a 3 year contract by Carlton Palmer in 2003.

Matt cut his professional teeth at Edgeley Park and was a regular goalscorer in the reserve side before being sent on loan to Scunthorpe Utd. He made his league debut at Glanford Park for Scunthorpe in a 3-1 win over Rochdale and went on to make 5 league and cup appearances for the Iron before returning to Stockport.

His County debut arrived soon after in an LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Wrexham, but after only one more appearance, was released by manager Chris Turner. Bailey returned to non league football at the end of 2004/5 season by signing with Conference outfit Northwich Victoria, but trained with the Alex.

After scoring twice in an under 18 game for the Railwaymen, he was offered a 1 year contract to give him time to impress and earn a longer contract. While Matt did not make the breakthrough to the Alex first team squad last season he continued to impress the clubs coaching staff and gained more experience with with loan spells at Hereford, Southport and Lancaster City doing enough to earn a new one year deal at Crewe last summer.
